Jazz for Toddlers with Arun Ghosh

To prove you are never too young to enjoy jazz, join British-Asian clarinettist, composer and music educator Arun Ghosh at this workshop for 2–5 year olds and accompanying parents/carers. Expect lots of music and movement, plus some fun ideas to take away and try at home.

Arun Ghosh is a British-Asian clarinettist, composer and music educator, whose three albums have all received widespread critical acclaim and extensive airplay. He has composed numerous scores for theatre and dance, and has recorded four live sessions for BBC radio.

The Ilford Jazz Café with Keith Nichols

Keith Nichols is considered to be one of the foremost authorities on classic jazz and ragtime; specialising in all older jazz piano styles, including the likes of Scott Joplin, James P.Johnson, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington.

Keith performs and records prolifically, as well as lecturing on Jazz History at the Royal Academy and Trinity Colleges. For more than thirty years he has specialized in accompanying silent films – comedies by Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, and in 2004, he received the BBC Jazz Heritage Award.

Smitty's Big Parade

Kansas Smitty's usual format of bringing people to the music is turned on its head as Smitty's Big Parade takes over the high street to bring music to the people.

Over the past three years, Kansas Smitty’s has become a name synonymous with good music and real people. Their traditional second line parade has popped up everywhere from the concourse at Waterloo Station, to the streets of Soho, and out to the fields of the annual Wilderness Festival. You’ll move to the sounds of New York, New Orleans, Paris, and Havana with their sour mash of jazz genres. Smitty's Big Parade is a moving party roaming across London and when you hear it coming you’ll know there's no choice but to join in, in an explosion of light, colour, dancing.
