Kingston is a town with a rich heritage and a place that is equally proud of its record in design, innovation and creativity. A walk around Kingston reveals a medieval town with a Saxon Church and beautiful Ancient Market Place at its heart.
Today the town’s medieval thoroughfares provide a seamless link to contemporary life, reflected in a changing urban landscape and also in the people who live, work, study and visit the town. A University and College town, Kingston is also home to the UK’s first Business Improvement District, the impressive Rose Theatre , international dance company BalletBoyz and the UK’s largest Youth Arts Festival. In short it is a place that positively supports growth, change and innovation.
Kingston is currently facing rapid expansion. While the town centre has fantastic strengths, these need to be sustained through a challenging period of physical regeneration as part of Kingston Futures, an ambitious programme of transformation. The town centre is the engine house of the local economy and the income generated supports the overall prosperity of the borough through changing times.
